Sewing Assistant (part-time), Classic Sewing magazine

Is sewing your passion? Have you ever designed a sewing or embroidery project, or taught someone to sew or do handwork? If so, we may have a great opportunity for you. In this position, you will attend photo shoots in studio and on location, prepare projects/garments for photography (including ironing and sometimes basting in hems), accept and log in projects/garments when received in the office and log out/ship back to designers, proof patterns and yardage layouts, and organize/add to an index.

Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of smocking, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, heirloom sewing by hand, heirloom sewing by machine, quilting, and other sewing talents. Ideal candidate will also have experience with instruction writing for sewing construction, smocking, and embroidery. Knowledge of Excel, Dropbox, Microsoft Word is preferred. Organizational skills for filing, correspondence, and cataloging required.

This is a part-time position working in our Birmingham, AL office.

Food Editor: Taste of the South and Southern Cast Iron

We’re seeking an inspired, creative, food-loving writer to join our growing team as Food Editor. Our ideal candidate has a passion for Southern food and cast-iron cooking and can translate that passion into dynamic editorial packages for our readers. The Food Editor serves as the primary liaison between the Test Kitchen and the editorial team; superb communication and organizational skills are essential. Recipe editing experience is a plus; must be able to thrive in fast-paced environment. Magazine or newspaper experience preferred.

Food Stylist/Recipe Developer

Love creating recipes and preparing them for their magazine debut? We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the magazine industry or similar environment. In this fast-paced position, you must have the ability to develop recipes based on editorial parameters/themes and prepare them for photography. We require strong baking and pastry skills, a passion for cooking, and the ability to troubleshoot submitted recipes that do not perform. Food-styling experience and a college/culinary degree are preferred. Must have Microsoft Office skills and the ability to edit recipes according to provided recipe style guide.

Editorial Assistant for TeaTime and Cooking with Paula Deen magazines

We are seeking a detail-oriented individual to provide administrative support to two of our editorial teams. The ideal candidate will have a passion for afternoon tea, cooking, and entertaining. Some responsibilities include handling all reader calls and correspondence, maintaining resource information and files, managing content for the websites, handling social media for the magazines, ordering products, assisting with large photo shoots, some writing, and arranging travel/hotel accommodations for writers and photographers. Magazine-industry experience is helpful. Must have proficient computer and time-management skills. Familiarity with Photoshop and InDesign is preferred. Experience with content-management systems preferred. Entry-level position. College degree preferred.

Editorial Assistant  Taste of the South and Southern Cast Iron Magazines

Account Director

We are seeking a full-time account director to help us build the future. This member of our team will call on marketers and advertising agencies in Kentucky/Tennessee. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of media sales experience and a deep list of contacts in the DMO, CPG, and Homes categories within the territory. The candidate should be familiar with selling print, digital, email, and custom content creation. They should also live in a major metropolitan area within the territory. A proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint and Excel, is also desired. This position will consist of up to 40% travel-some overnight. Will work from a home office-must have internet service.

Test Kitchen/Recipe Tester

Do you love baking, cooking, and testing recipes? We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual that knows their way around the kitchen. In this fast-paced position, you must have the ability to test recipes for our magazines to ensure reader success and troubleshoot/correct recipes for publication. We are looking for someone with strong baking and pastry skills, a passion for cooking, and a willingness to learn. A college/culinary degree is preferred.
