Responsibilities include external communications and public relations, scheduling, and more. Public relations and marketing experience preferred.
Test Kitchen Director
We are seeking an experienced recipe developer and test kitchen professional to manage the Hoffman Media test kitchen in Birmingham, Alabama. The Test Kitchen Director will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, scheduling photo shoots, and ensuring maximum productivity in the kitchen. In addition, the Test Kitchen Director will ensure developed recipes are on brand for our publications, successful for readers, and visually stunning with excellent food styling. Culinary degree and management experience required.
Editor, Southern Cast Iron
Are you passionate about Southern food and cooking in cast iron? We are looking for an experienced magazine editor to lead Southern Cast Iron, a fast-growing Hoffman Media publication that was named one of the Hottest New Launches of 2016 by min. The editor will be responsible for overseeing the continued growth of brand and managing all aspects of production, from planning each issue to working with in-house creative teams to create editorial packages. Management experience and working culinary knowledge required.
We are seeking two Project Editors to work in our Birmingham, Alabama, office. Qualified candidates will be passionate about magazines and producing quality content. The Project Editors will oversee the day-to-day production of special editorial projects to make sure deadlines are met and brand styles are executed. Duties include managing photo shoots for projects, working with our test kitchen, editing copy for publication, and writing.
Managing Editor, Lousiana Cookin’ magazine
We are seeking a candidate that is passionate about cooking, Louisiana foodways, and delivering quality content to our readers. The Managing Editor will oversee the production of each issue of this publication to make sure deadlines are met and the brand is executed. Duties include managing freelance and staff writers, working with our test kitchen, overseeing photo shoots, editing stories for publication, and producing and writing engaging editorial packages. Some travel required.
We are seeking a Digital Designer to join our Digital Media team. You will be expected to work on a wide range of projects, including web design/development, e-mail campaigns, digital editions, social media, and digital marketing. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and producing innovative designs to support marketing campaigns across multiple marketing channels. You must have the ability to collaborate well with others and thrive in an often fast-paced environment. Experience with designing for the web, tablet, mobile, and print is a must. Only candidates with strong portfolios and required qualifications will be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 4 years of digital design experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Strong design and development skills for online user experience.
- Skills in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator.
- Experience with WordPress or PHP.
- Demonstrate passion for staying current on industry trends and technology.
- You will be required to meet production minimums on assigned work each week.

Sewing Assistant (part-time), Classic Sewing magazine
Is sewing your passion? Have you ever designed a sewing or embroidery project, or taught someone to sew or do handwork? If so, we may have a great opportunity for you. In this position, you will attend photo shoots in studio and on location, prepare projects/garments for photography (including ironing and sometimes basting in hems), accept and log in projects/garments when received in the office and log out/ship back to designers, proof patterns and yardage layouts, and organize/add to an index.
Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of smocking, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, heirloom sewing by hand, heirloom sewing by machine, quilting, and other sewing talents. Ideal candidate will also have experience with instruction writing for sewing construction, smocking, and embroidery. Knowledge of Excel, Dropbox, Microsoft Word is preferred. Organizational skills for filing, correspondence, and cataloging required.
This is a part-time position working in our Birmingham, AL office.
Food Stylist/Recipe Developer
Love creating recipes and preparing them for their magazine debut? We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the magazine industry or similar environment. In this fast-paced position, you must have the ability to develop recipes based on editorial parameters/themes and prepare them for photography. We require strong baking and pastry skills, a passion for cooking, and the ability to troubleshoot submitted recipes that do not perform. Food-styling experience and a college/culinary degree are preferred. Must have Microsoft Office skills and the ability to edit recipes according to provided recipe style guide.
We are seeking a full-time account director to help us build the future. This member of our team will call on marketers and advertising agencies in Kentucky/Tennessee. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of media sales experience and a deep list of contacts in the DMO, CPG, and Homes categories within the territory. The candidate should be familiar with selling print, digital, email, and custom content creation. They should also live in a major metropolitan area within the territory. A proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint and Excel, is also desired. This position will consist of up to 40% travel-some overnight. Will work from a home office-must have internet service.
