Dear Friends
P
hoto albums, ribbon-tied bundles of wedding invitations and
graduation announcements, and countless treasured memories attest
to the many celebrations my husband and I observe in May and June.
In addition to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events and the ceremonies,
commencements, and nuptials we attend, we gather for the ample share of
family birthdays sprinkled throughout these months.
I look forward with great anticipation to the balmy weather of midsummer,
when we move our entertaining out of doors—either to our screened porch or
to the stretch of lawn we refer to as our “outdoor room.” There, with perfumed
breezes to cool us and birdsong to serenade us, we can enjoy relaxing times
with our guests. I find that hosting gatherings surrounded by nature is an easy
way to achieve a pleasing ambience.
In this issue, the story “Among the Wildflowers,” on page 30, captures the
essence of what I love about this season. With great friends, a comfortable
blanket or quilt to spread out on the grass, and a few simple foods, summer
days take on a carefree spirit that restores balance and harmony. I hope this
lovely feature will inspire you to create your own moments of bliss.
If more formal entertaining is your preference, I recommend our newly
released
Teatime Bliss
. It is a wonderful guide to using tea and the
delicious and delicate foods that accompany it to bring serenity to
your spirit. Also included are the basics for getting started, plus
tips and how-tos for hosting memorable tea parties. Look for the
magazine on newsstands, on

I encourage you to savor each minute of this glorious season.
