Sr. Copy Editor

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced copy editor to manage our copy editing team in Birmingham, Alabama. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Project assignment, managing workflow and copy editing. The work focuses on checking facts, grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, consistency of publication style, and overall flow and continuity. You will also check copy and layouts for final stages to spot errors. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in English, or journalism. We prefer a minimum of 3-5 years’ industry experience, preferably working on print and online publications.  Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style is preferred.

Executive Assistant, New Orleans, LA

In this role, you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of our organization and a chance to build relationships with other employees and members of the management team, as well as clients. This support position is best suited for an energetic, motivated, resourceful professional looking to step into the industry and make a great first impression in a fast-paced, competitive publishing company. Strong communication and follow-up skills, a positive attitude, and demonstrated leadership abilities are essential. Must have the capability to juggle multiple projects and stay calm under pressure. We wear a lot of hats, so a willingness to pitch in with whatever needs to be done and the ability to always be one step ahead goes a long way, too.

Responsibilities

  • Gatekeeper to President/COO: phones, mail, email, making sure meetings start and end on time
  • Create presentations and other communications
  • Compose and prepare confidential correspondence, reports, and other information
  • Manage multiple calendars, including scheduling meetings, teleconferences, and travel
  • Prepare expense reports and other invoices
  • Maintain files, contact lists, and other resources
  • Other projects, as directed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, communications or business administration major preferred Experience of 1-2 years as an executive assistant or in an administrative role
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidential client and company information
  • Travel planning experience a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Superior ability to organize and simplify
  • Knowledge of Google Enterprise (Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.) highly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel a plus

Assistant Editor, The Cottage Journal magazine

We have a great opportunity for a professional individual with strong writing skills. This person will conduct research, write assigned stories for both print and web, and edit stories written by others. Will develop a network of contacts and will work with stylist and art director to shepherd stories into editorial for magazine. This individual will travel as needed. English or journalism degree and professional experience in writing or editorial position is required.

Associate Editor, The Cottage Journal magazine

We have an excellent opportunity for a creative, organized individual experienced in the areas of writing and editing in the publishing industry. This position focuses on writing and content development for both print and web. Must have a passion for interior design, market trends, and home décor. This individual will travel as needed. The ideal candidate will be detailed oriented, work well independently as well as collaboratively with team members, and exhibit a positive and professional attitude. Must have excellent writing and editing skills. Applicants should have a degree in journalism or English and 3-5 years of experience in editorial writing and social media are required.

Account Directors (two positions)

We are seeking two full-time account directors to help us build the future. One member of our team will call on marketers and advertising agencies in Kentucky/Tennessee and the other will call on marketers and advertising agencies in Georgia/South Carolina and part of Florida. The ideal candidates have a minimum of 5 years of media sales experience and a deep list of contacts in the DMO, CPG, and Homes categories within the territory. The candidates should be familiar with selling print, digital, email, and custom content creation. They should also live in a major metropolitan area within the territory. A proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint and Excel, is also desired. This position will consist of up to 40% travel-some overnight. Will work from a home office-must have internet service. Please specify territory.

Test Kitchen/Recipe Tester

Do you love baking, cooking, and testing recipes? We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual that knows their way around the kitchen. In this fast-paced position, you must have the ability to test recipes for our magazines to ensure reader success and troubleshoot/correct recipes for publication. We are looking for someone with strong baking and pastry skills, a passion for cooking, and a willingness to learn. A college/culinary degree is preferred. Must have Microsoft Office skills and the ability to edit recipes according to provided recipe style guide.
